Attendance

Regular attendance and punctuality is an essential aspect for your child’s development. Once enrolled, children are required to attend school each day. If children arrive at school late, they need to be signed in at the School Front Office. Letters/notes of explanation are required, by law to cover all occasions when your child is not at school – full day and partial day.

Ring 8356 2117 or SMS 0476 857 370 if your child is going to be absent from school. If we haven’t heard we will need to contact you via SMS to find out why your child is not at school.

Communication

School newsletters are distributed via FROG to families in weeks 3, 6 and 9 each term. The newsletter is a very important link between the school, the home and the community. FROG (app based platform) is used to communicate a variety of information to the school community. All items to be included in the newsletter need to be provided by COB Monday (of the week of distribution).

Teacher Communication is done with Frog is our preferred format for communications with your child’s class teacher regarding class events, reminders, activities etc.

  • Access a tailored parent/carer dashboard with school notices and events
  • Stay informed about their child’s progress and development
  • Engage in 3-way communication between parents or carers, their child and the child’s educator, once access has been activated via the Community Portal in EMS.

Mobile Phones

Students in Reception to year 6 are not permitted to use mobile phones while at school. Please see mobile phone and Personal device policy under policies. Mobile phones are collected at the beginning of each day and held in the front office.

Class Structure

Class structures vary from year to year and are influenced by the enrolment numbers in year level cohorts and the total number of students across the school. The development of class structures is reviewed prior to each school year. Currently Henley Beach PS has predominantly single year level classes with some composite classes. A composite class is composed of 2 year levels and can occur if overall enrolment numbers do not allow a single year level class to be formed. At Henley Beach Primary School we make every effort to cater for the individual needs of children whether in a single year level or multi-age classes. All classes, regardless of their structure, are developed in a way to ensure they are balanced in regards to overall class size, gender distribution and academic achievement.

Within our school’s class structures, we have a Reception – Year 2 special options class. Eligibility for this class is managed by the Department for Education. These children have the opportunity to interact with their peers in mainstream classes as well as access their own individual learning programs. Our special class provides students their own play area, ICT devices, kitchenette and sensory room.
